STEVEN Gerrard believes Thursday night’s game against Lyon will be one of the biggest challenges his Rangers side have faced.
The boss of the Gers knows the intensity that OL will bring tomorrow night but thinks that the Gers can hurt the opposition to get a good start in the group stage of the competition.
The Rangers manager spoke to the press today and said: “I hope the European nights continue to become more special here, I really enjoyed the European nights, but we have to keep getting results. against big teams and high level opposition.
“I loved him as a player and as a manager.
“As players, coaches and as a manager you learn from every game against the best teams. We’ve had some amazing European games and made some mistakes along the way – that’s where the growth comes from.
“The European nights with fans and players are a real highlight.”
Gerrard is aware of the challenge Lyon will bring on Thursday night and believes it will be a huge test for the team, but insists his team may injure the French team.
He continued: “Lyon are a club with Champions League level players, a real big test tomorrow and we have to be at our best on both sides of the games. “You can get punished very quickly against these teams. We also need to have our own confidence and conviction to be courageous and harm the opposition.
“We know the magnitude of the challenge and it’s arguably the biggest we’ve had as a group.
“When a new manager comes into a team, it takes time to build a system and a way of playing. Lyon have top-level players and it’s a great club with a very experienced manager.
“We have no illusions about the difficulty of this match and we have great respect for the team we will face tomorrow.
“It’s a fantastic challenge and what a time to be a part of this team, it’s something we all want to be a part of.
“We have shown that we can compete and improve at this level. The challenge is to continue to impress and to go further. One thing’s for sure, we won’t make it easy for anyone playing with us.
